Stoddard HistoryHenry H. White from New England is credited for being the founder of the Village of Stoddard. He came to the area in 1867 and bought land all around what would become Stoddard real estate. In 1887, Henry became postmaster and is said to have named the village in honor of Colonel Thomas B. Stoddard, first mayor of LaCrosse in 1856, who helped the new community advance and expand.
Since then, Stoddard has been thriving and doing quite well for itself. In 1967, a huge land purchase for the Village Park was one of social importance for Stoddard real estate. Ever since the land was bought, it has been landscaped, along with construction of a shelter and tennis courts. This could not have been accomplished without the help of the local philanthropic organizations, such as the Lions Club, American Legion and fire department.
